Sylvia's Requests...

Sylvia,
Jean Lean called this afternoon and asked if you could please put her on your prayer list.  She is having glacoma and cataract surgery on December 14.  She asked that they please pray for her.  She is having it done in Lansdale.
Thanks,
Love, Mom

And from my sister in law Lisa - my nephew Ryan has an internship in Pittsburgh (Norine and Leslie, can you pass this on to your nephew/niece who are up there to help spread the word?  Thanks!)
Could you send this around to people in case they know someone who is interested.
Thanks,

My son, Ryan, is trying to find someone to sublet his apartment in downtown State College for the next semester.  The apartment is “The Legend” at 246 Highland Avenue in State College.  It is close to the center of town near Pugh Street.  There are four other male roommates in the apartment.  The monthly cost is $468 a month which includes all utilities.  The sublet will be available anytime after 12/19/10 and can be rented as long as someone is willing.  The lease we signed runs until 8/1/11.  If you know anyone that is interested, please let me know.  My cell phone is 570-778-9562.

sylvia's Requests...

Heard from cousin Michael that Debbie did well with her surgery and may even be discharged tomorrow night!  Now I ask that you pray for Debbie to remain free from any infections, and quick healing.  Thanks so much!
HERE'S AN UPDATE FROM BERNIE ON HER DAUGHTER BRENDA: (we'll keep praying Bernie)
Hi Syl,

I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers. The doctor did not have to take Brenda's ovary. However, it does appear that due to a lot of scar tissue from her previous abdominal surgeries, she will most likely not be able to conceive without some fertilization help, but the doctor isn't sure that her uterus would be able to carry a baby to term. Brenda seems okay with this. I think when she had the tumor at 13 years old and lost her ovary then she had already resigned herself to adoption. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. On a positive note at least she won't be facing menopause anytime soon which was also a concern with losing her ovary.

Thanks,
Bernie

URGENT PRAYERS FOR NICK FRANCA……..AND TO HELP CELEBRATE HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY.  Please also keep all of his family in your prayers too.....

·         Thursday, December 2, 2010 10:49 AM, CST
We arrived at Sloan by ambulance about 9 last night.  Nick started having horrific clots again through his bladder, why we don't know.  His blood pressure and all tumor markers are crazy high.  He is inpatient in a private room for now, as I had made a pleading request to Dr. Kushner for Nick's mental state to not have to deal with anything else but what he already is..

I hadn't cried much this week until we walked onto the 9th floor.  There were 3 of his night nurses welcoming us with open arms and any drugs he needed.  AT CHOP there are just different rules about drugs and they don't match nick's needs.  It is a children's hospital and there are rules that can't be bent.  I was so moved by the emotion of our family of inpatient team here.  Today I cried again when his day nurses hugged me and Dr. Laquaglia is moving mountains to do another bladder scope to stop the bleeding.

This all means that we are delaying the start of chemo.  He has lost 8 pounds since Thanksgiving now and can't eat because of the underlying anxiety....... got his mama's stomach... Jim reacts in the opposite direction, wish Nick did.  Anyway, at this point we are going to ask if starting friday or Sunday would make that much of a difference.  Dr. Modak was very kind but very realistic today.  He asked how blunt Dr. Maris was in talking about where we are in the journey.  His disease doesn't seem to hold for more than 8 weeks after treatment, and it doesn't come back like a lamb, but a lion each time. So the question is how long do you want to keep doing this?  Nick made it clear that there will be no more talk of quitting, he doesn't see it as a choice.

So we have to
manage blood pressure
stop the bleeding of the bladder and the pain associated with it
Get him eating and pooping
Start salvage chemo

When we don't know.

We are in room 511 at the RMhouse
We are in room 902 inpatient.
Please send any mail to RMhouse,

405 East 73rd St. NY NY 10021

any gifts to
1275 York Ave. NY NY10021  room 511 Nick Franca, mark urgent otherwise it gets stuck in mail room for weeks.

The mountain is high... the summit looks beyond what we humanly know how to do at this moment, so we have to figure out a different way to climb, holding on to every step so we don't tumble without being roped in.  You are our ropes, you hold is up as we take steps to the top, helping us not to fall.

Michele & Meghan’s friend Peter - who we prayed for to find a job when he was left go from Air Products….and he just did!….in Philly – he is keeping his townhouse in Macungie, however needs to “fill” it…..if anyone knows of someone looking for a place, here is the info:
Hi Sylvia,
So good to see you the other day.  Even though it was only for a few minutes.

Please pass this along to anyone you know looking.  Here is a quick ad that I came up with.  I can provide many pics too, just ask.
Thanks,
Peter

Looking for 2 roommates, non-smoking, no pets. Male or female.  Can be either a student, intern, co-op, or full time working professional.

I have a three bedroom town home, built only a few years ago. I currently have one working professional living in one of the rooms. The bedrooms available have their ownclosets and can come furnished with a bed and nightstand at no charge. You just have to let me know.

Rent is $495 per month for one room and $475 for the other.  The cheaper room is a little smaller and has a smaller closet.

Home is an end unit town house, 1,800 square feet with a finished basement.
Common areas are shared and include living room, dining room, kitchen, and washer/dryer.

Rent includes wireless internet, phone, garbage, recycling, sewage, and free street parking right in front of the house. There is also one driveway spot.  There is always plenty of parking, it's never an issue. You will have your own bedroom and share a full bathroom. You will also have access to the private community's gym, basketball court, tennis courts, walking/running paths, and outdoor pool in the summer time.

Tenants split certain utility costs. They are electric and water. Cable television if you so desire.

The person who lives there now is pretty low key. This isn't a party house. If that is what you are looking for, this isn't the place for you.

This house is a very easy drive to Air Products, PPL, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Olympus, Lutron, and others for those working professionals and many universities such as Lehigh, DeSales, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Muhlenberg, and Cedar Crest College for students. Again, there are working professionals living here, so please keep that in mind.

Renter must be willing to sign general contract and agree to rental terms and conditions such as keeping common areas and your full bath clean.

There are a few pictures attached, I have more available upon request. Please email if you have any questions.

George Washington prayer...at the Monument

" Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.  Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen."  Laus Deo!

Prayers for Infant's Heart Surgery ANSWERED

Rick:
I am hesitant to keep putting names on your prayer list so as to not infringe so much.  I have a cousin who asked me and many others in our family to pray for her tiny granddaughter who was going through heart surgery.  It was a miracle of sorts and I am just passing along Susie's report this morning.  I know it is a lot of work putting the blog together and I feel sure everyone appreciates what you do.  I couldn't help but forwarding the good news on.

My precious grand baby came to see me last evening
She is kind of shy about things right now
She thinks everytime you go near her you are going to stick a needle in her or something
But she looks so pink and beautiful with her heart repaired and she smiles when her Dad put her
in the changing table in my sun room
I have always believed in miracles and she is truly one
We are so thankful and so blessed
Check out her videos on Youtube just type Eliavah
Thanks for all your concern love and especially prayers
Please continue to pray for Karma, Aree and Eliavah

Paul Walker - Fight Tiger Fight UPDATE JULY

WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 2010 4:18 PM, CDT
Well,

Linda and I went up to Rochester Monday for my second monthly checkup and review.  I had bloodwork Tuesday morning and consultation with my doctor late Tuesday afternoon.  The first thing she said after "Hello" was that I no longer had an M-Spike!   That was great news.  That means the drugs are working and I am back in remission.

She cut back on my prednisone so now maybe I can sleep over the weekends.  In the future, she will most likely cut back on the Pomalidomide (the clinical trial drug) which should cut back the fatigue and other side effects.  In the meantime, I am thrilled to have the side effects for something that has worked so well against the cancer.  In effect, it reduced the cancer from a fairly high level to undetectable in 2 months.

Now I will just count on a long remission.

Thanks once again for your prayers and support.  The support of family and friends has been instrumental in my handling of this disease and I am thankful for the relationship I have with each and every one of you.

God Bless,
Paul

THURSDAY, MAY 20, 2010 7:43 PM, CDT
Wow, hard to believe it has been so long since we updated Paul's journal.  Much has happened since December.  Paul's "numbers" have continued to increase showing progression of disease.  We held off on treatment, but we are now at Mayo Clinic enrolling him in a clinical trial.

He switched to Dr. Hayman, a Mayo clinic myeloma specialist, as his primary oncologist in March.  Since that time he has also found a new oncologist in Kansas City.  His KC oncologist was recommended by several myeloma patients that we knew through the support group and friends.  Since December, Paul has been getting monthly labs.  His numbers took a jump in March and then another big jump in May.  After talking to his Mayo doctor last weekend about a clinical trial at Mayo, on Wednesday they, scheduled appointments and we got here last night.  The trial is with the next "generation" of the drug that he was on prior to his 2008 transplant.  He had a good response to that drug, so we decided this was the right thing to do.  We met with his doctor this morning and he had several tests.  We met with her again this afternoon.  All that is left is the dreaded bone marrow biopsy, but at least at Mayo they put you out for it if you want.  So the biopsy is tomorrow morning and then we will meet with the clinical trial coordinator to get the drug....and we're off to the races.  Hopefully he will have a great response to this new drug with minimal side effects.

We are thankful that he has had two years without treatment and a great quality of life.  We knew that it would be temporary, and we are ready to take the step in the journey.

At Paul's quarterly appointment in October, we were told that his myeloma "numbers" were trending up. We were told not to wait another three months for the next appointment, so Paul scheduled labs and appointment for December. We met with his new physician yesterday. His numbers are still trending up; however, it was decided to continue monitoring closely and to hold off treatment until the numbers worsened or he became symptomatic. He still feels great and was told to enjoy life, which he is doing. He is currently planning our next vacation; probably a driving trip through the southwest to the coast next spring. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. Linda Walker.

Please pray for the family of Patricia Bockwinkel Happ

Today, Kevin Happ, pictured on the right, died suddenly while working in his yard.  He was the husband of my cousin Patricia and the father to those pictured.  Please say a prayer for this family...

A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says She is gone.

Gone where?  Gone from my sight, that is all.  She is just as large now as when I last saw her.  Her diminished size and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says she is gone there are others who are watching her coming over their horizon and other voices take up a glad shout... There she comes!

How about a quick prayer for someone you don't know? Read on...

Rick:

Shirley is an old High School friend and her husband Jim is one heck of a guy.  They live in El Cajon, California, and this will be the first year we will not see each other in Texas, in quite some time.  Shirley will not fly so they had to drive over and back each year.  Jim didn't look too good last August and it was quite a change from one year to the next.

Thanks for putting them on the blog.

To Erin...about your Dad's Passing...

Since your dad liked sailing...I felt this was even more appropriate for him...

May your dad rest in peace.
May you sister and you have peace.
May Joann and her family know his peace.

Love to all.

THE MATERNAL FACE OF GOD

Question of the Day:
What is meant by a maternal consciousness?

Historically speaking, in our culture the role of men has been to create, to make new things, to fix broken things, and to defend us from things which could hurt us.  All of these are wonderful and necessary roles for the preservation of the human race.
However, most children saw their mother in a different way.  She was not a creator, a fixer or a defender, but rather a transformer.  Once a woman has held her baby inside of her body for nine months and brought it forth in pain into the world, this woman knows the mystery of transformation in her body.  She knows it intuitively, yet she cannot verbalize it.  She just holds it in a deeper level of consciousness.  She knows something about mystery, about miracles and about transformation that men will never know (which is why males had to be initiated!).
The feminine body can be seen as a cauldron of transformation.  Her body turns things into other things—her body turns a love act into a perfect little child.  Yet, in her heart, she knows SHE did not do it.  All she had to do was to wait and eat well, to believe and to hope for nine months.  This gives a woman a very special access to understanding spirituality as transformation, if she listens.

I WISH YOU ENOUGH

Picture This...a Father and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure.

Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the Father said, 'I love you, and I wish you enough.'

The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad.'

They kissed and the daughter left. The Father walked over to the window where you are seated. You could see he wanted and needed to cry.  You cared...you could not avoid asking, "How can I help?"

'I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' he said.

You care...you ask..."What was that you said to each other at you parted?"

He began to smile. 'My parents used to say it to everyone...' He paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward you, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

TAKE TIME TO LIVE....

To all my friends and loved ones,
I WISH YOU ENOUGH.

Prayers for our friend in India, Mrs. Rajashree Mahadhir

Dear Rick & Erin,

I have a request to include a friend & his wife's name in your next prayer club meeting.

Mrs. Rajashree Mahadhir, wife of Mr. Prashanth Mahadhir residing in Haridwar, India is suddenly diagnosed with Brain Tumor.  I was told that Mrs. Rajashree already went through one surgery and awaiting for a second one.  I request you to kindly include Mrs. Rajashree's speedy recovery to normalcy again.

I am not known to Prashanth and his family directly, but he heard about the case of (our another family friend) Mrs. Kokila Ganesan, who has fully recovered from Leukaemia.  Earlier your Prayer Club prayed for the well being of Mrs. Kokila Ganesan.

Let us pray for the fullest recovery of Mrs. Rajashree Mahadhir from her sudden sickness.

Best Regards,
Ven Venkatesan

NOTE to Ven...I will pray my hour in perpetual Eucharistic Adoration this week for Mrs. Rajashree Mahadhir.

MATT 5:44 A great prayer

Heavenly  Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut  us off in
traffic last night is a single mother  who worked nine hours that day
and is rushing  home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the  laundry
and spend a few precious moments with  her children and/or
grandchildren.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man
who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college
student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of
not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the
same spot every day is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in
our worst nightmares.

Help  us to remember that the old couple walking  annoyingly slow
through the store aisles and  blocking our shopping progress are
savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got
back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping
together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us,
the greatest gift is love.  It is not enough to share that love with
those we hold dear. Open our hearts not just to those who are close to
us, but to all humanity.  Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive,
show patience, empathy and love. Matt 5:44

Working for God on earth doesn't pay much.  But His retirement plan is

Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods.

They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, 'Someday I hope to be a great treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with an intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty.'

Then the second tree said, 'Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take Kings and Queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. People will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull.'

Finally the third tree said, 'I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest.’  People will see me on top of the hill, look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.'

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, 'This looks like a strong tree,’ I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter, and he began cutting it down.. The tree was happy, because he knew the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest.

At the second tree the woodsman said, 'This looks like a strong tree. I will be able to sell it to the shipyard.' The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship.

When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the men said, 'I don't need anything special from my tree, I'll take this one,' and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for.

The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and   carrying Kings had come to an end.

The third tree was cut in to large pieces, and left alone in the dark.

The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made   from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said 'Peace' and the storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the King of  Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as  the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, God will give you great gifts.

Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined...

We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His Ways are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

Ed Dykes...heart surgery UPDATE

Ed's surgery went very well and he is doing fine.  He will be in CCIU for at least 2 days, maybe 3. then to a room and probably home on Friday.  Thanks to all of you for your concern, prayers and e-mails.   I will have to apologize for my accusation of  "old age laziness"....guess he had a good reason to be.  I look forward to  having the "ole Ed" back.  If anything changes I will let you know....Until the next time...thanks so very much!
Martha D.
Just a note to let Ed's Rust buddies know...yesterday afternoon after he began complaining of chest pain, sweating & nausea, I decided to take him to the E.R.  Following a series of tests and determining that he in fact had had a heart attack, they sent him to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.  Following more testing, he was admitted.  Results of the heart cath indicated blockage in 3 arteries plus branches...surgery will most probably be tomorrow.  I'll keep you posted.  Please remember him in your prayers.    Thanks,  Martha D.
