Chemo Day

Some will say you will pray because it is a nice thing to say or it is politically correct.

Then there are those of you who will  really do it. I'm sending this to some who will.

This prayer means so much so please say the prayer for everyone and pass it on. 

Cancer is a strange cell.

If you ever have it, you will never be free of it. If you never had it, don't feel too cozy,

you can get it.  Pray for the day there will be a permanent cure.

Hello Prayer Friends

--Celia, who sees Dr. next week to discuss back surgery. For referral to the "right" surgeon and God's perfect timing for surgery. 

--Celia's son Grant and his family who have financial difficulties...for guidance and direction in the difficult decisions they face. 

--Uncle Bill (Josh's uncle) who tore his meniscus last week. Sees Dr. next week for more tests and possible surgery.

--Linda, my friend Laura's sister for whom we prayed 7 years ago when she had a double mastectomy.  Has been having back pain and finally saw a Dr.  Cancer may be back, in her spine.  Awaiting more test results.

--Adam, my friend Meg's son who leaves for Ireland on Sunday to study there for the semester.

--Nicole, who continues to do well after surgery, and her husband Scott, who continues his training in his new job with CSX railroad. Please pray they are able to sell their house so they can live together in their new apt in Ridley Park. They face many changes and challenges in their future and all things are possible with God and our prayers!

--Meg, a praise that her recent brain MRI/MRA showed no change in the area of concern.

THIS WAS SENT YESTERDAY...

For today, please pray for healing for Rich.  He is scheduled for repeat cognitive testing tomorrow.  Has symptoms of allergies/cold, not at his best.  It took 3 months to get this appt. and he already has f/u appt. with Neurologist on Tuesday to discuss results and fulfill compliance regulation for Medicare to pay for his cpap machine ($700- started using Oct. 21st and must see referring physician within 90 days).  Rich does not know he has testing appt. by prior agreement so he will not stress all night anticipating it.  Thanks!

Your prayers, Vit. C and abundant supply of Gatorade have resulted in a turnaround for Rich. A miracle compared to last night when his eyes were nearly swollen shut. His symptoms are nearly gone and he is full of energy. So, we will keep the appt. tomorrow. Last time I told him where we were going on the way to Raleigh.  I'm packing a lunch and we'll have it before his testing at 12.  We did this last time and he was fine. Thank you.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR NICOLE'S PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALING SINCE HER SURGERY:

​Nicole called the Dr.'s office Friday night and spoke to the nurse on call. Was told to follow her discharge instructions; not helpful.  Last night she emailed her Dr. who emailed her back today. He addressed her concerns and gave her much needed assurance regarding these changes in her body. She is scheduled to return to work on Jan. 23rd.

Hello all...this is a group update!

Rich had his testing today with a great Neuropsychologist at Wake Med.

His diagnosis following comparison of results with identical testing 2 years ago is Mild Cognitive Impairment, Amnestic Type (with additional modalities this time). The areas of severe deficit last time, memory and learning, showed increased deficit today. She explained it this way... when processing information, our brain goes through stages: we receive, store, and retrieve the information.  Last time Rich was able to receive and store but not retrieve; today he was able to receive but not store or retrieve information.  In other areas such as thinking, judgment, language etc. there were no significant changes.

We will see the Neurologist tomorrow to discuss results of CPAP usage and today's testing.  

What does this mean?  According to Dr. Mathes today, 50% of folks like Rich go on to develop Alzheimer's Disease.  The other 40% stay the same and 10% show improvement (those whose cognitive issues were related to medical condition which were identified and treated).

Plan:  Medical intervention.  Psychologist said there are new meds available which have had good results in slowing progression.  

Lifestyle changes, many of which we have or are making. Downsizing will be a big, positive step. 

Repeat testing in a year to closely monitor any changes.

Thanks for all of your prayers. Rich felt them. Me, too. As we were driving to Raleigh today and I told him about the appt., he was fairly calm.  We had an hour to talk and eat some lunch before it began.  We took a walk while waiting to hear the results and affirmed that we are a great team, facing this together, with gratitude for all the blessings we do have.

UPDATE ON JIM WHO WE'VE BEEN PRAYING FOR

Hi Sylvia,
Wanted to update all your prayer warriors with regard to my friend, Jim, who was battling liver cancer. Jim passed away Friday night in his sleep at home with family by his bedside. Thank you for your prayers which I believe helped him pass peacefully. If I may ask for continued prayers for his wife, Maggie as her mother passed away less than 12 hours after Jim. Please keep Maggie and her two children in prayer. Thank you.

                                               Always read your prayers and now will ask for prayers for Andrew, John’s son. Just this Wed. he had his second hip replacement . first hip was replaced in Aug of 14 and now the other hip needed replacement. He is up at college in Rochester and had surgery done there. Just came home yesterday. Problem with the hip bones arose from intense chemo he received about 2 yrs ago for lymphoma. The chemo destroyed his hip bones.  Drs. did not want to replace because of his age (21) but the pain was more than he wanted to tolerate. Andrew is a very intelligent guy and in fact has a chance to go to California this summer for an internship for a company that is part of NASA.  Pray that God will see him through this and have a healthy future for him. I just received an e-mail from Melanie Newhard, many of you know her from Curcio.  Her mother just passed away 12/27 and the family if having a very hard time dealing with this saddness .  She is an extremely religious woman and I know she is trying to help them all, but they need prayers.  Please remember them.  Love you all Carole Y

UPDATE ON CAROL C'S AUNT DORIS:

Thank you all for your prayers for my Aunt Doris, her surgery went well. Now she is filling up with fluid. Today she is being sent home to be with one of her daughters. Hospice will be coming in to assist. Please ask the good Lord to be kind and merciful that she might not suffer. May the Lord grant her a peaceful passing.

Megan Kinsella Quaranta's THIRD chemo is this Wednesday - saw her over the weekend as well and she looks wonderful and said she is feeling good!  

OHHHHH.....and another good news update!  We have prayed for Michele's friend Lauren - she has a five year old and has been trying for the past few years to become pregnant - and did have a miscarriage - SHE IS PREGNANT AND DUE IN JULY!!  Please continue to pray for her and the baby that all will continue to go well.

Why Go to Church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this.. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

Rick, this is regarding Kyle-you may remember him from a long time ago, when the Trio of Terror were doing one of Miles’ summer Theatre of the Imagination bits, doing a version of “Wicked”.  At the time, I think they were all Vinnie’s age, and Kyle was huge then, which was funny, since he played a “munchkin”.  Kyle is a very nice young man-I’m sorry to hear that he is having scary health problems.

Kokila Ganesan NEEDS prayer

I request you to include my close friend's wife name also in your prayer group's 'Request list to God'.

I heard from my friend this week, that his wife is diagnized with Leukaemia. Her name is Mrs. Kokila Ganesan.

Only 7 months ago we met this cheerful couple, when they both came to my daughter's wedding.

She is now undergoing treatment in Chennai, India.

Though the severity of her illness is known, we still heard about miraculous survivors from it.

Hence we still believe, God can listen to our prayers and extend her life until her children establish their own families.

James needs more prayers than his mom and dad can provide. Please ask your faithful to say one for James.

Every since late January, James has gone from one cold to another. Even had to go to ER once. Well, two days ago, they finally diagnosed his illness. MONO. Anyone who ever had it knows how it can drag you down. He is in his final semester of his final year with graduation 5/11 and lots of papers and reports due in the next week plus finals. James needs some spiritual uplifting.

Today has been a very special day for our family. Kennedy came home after being in the hospital since she was born on May 18th!!! When she came home this afternoon she weighed in at 7 lbs. and 13 ounces. What a miracle she is!!!

Thanks to all of your for all of your support, prayers (very important!!!) and just all of your good thoughts. We really appreciate all of this!

Please pass this news onto anyone else that has offered prayers and support for Kennedy as we know that there are many people around the world that have given her support.

Hi,

Please keep up with your prayers for Kennedy. She is working great on the lower part of her body. The last surgery went really well and she is pooping and doing a great job of it. Now, she is having difficulty breathing and is back on the vent. The lungs are "immature" and she is having trouble. They have started some new medicine yesterday and will be doing some more today. She really responded well to the stuff on Wed., so I hope that today will continue. Jill and Bryan are feeling the effects of this NICU roller coaster and it is really so hard for them. Please keep all of them in your prayers and hope that this lung issue will get better soon. Thanks for all of your good thoughts and support.

FYI Pam, the one on the right below the sky pilot, will be going in the hospital on Weds. 3.2007 for Heart Surgery. She has had a lot of problems with her medicine keeping the heart in rhythm. This procedure should help. It's called Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation. It will take about six hours to perform this procedure. If all works well she will not have to take as many meds as she does now. Please keep her in your prayers. GJB

As you may already know, Sarah Rogers, president of the UCF section of SWE, was in a tragic car accident on May 8, 2007. Her boyfriend was killed and Sarah was in a coma for over a week. She was moved to Indiana for critical care therapy. Her father had to move her out of that facility due to the cost and insurance no longer covering any of her care. Sarah still needs a great deal of medical care. Currently, her father is caring for her at home and taking her to therapy appointments.

Funeral services for Leo Hubert Mahaffey 82, of Bay Ridge Lane, Port Orange, passed Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 at Daytona Beach Health and Rehab, will be Friday Sept. 21, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL, with Minister Steve Johnson officiating, with burial following at Volusia Memorial Park 550 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach, FL, the family will receive friends on (today) Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 from 5PM until 7PM.
Leo was born May 13, 1924 in Xenia, Ohio, known by his friends and family as Hub, he graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1943 where he was football captain of the Xenia Buccaneers, he earned a scholarship to the University of Miami of Ohio, but was called to serve his country immediately after graduating. He received an Honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1946; he was stationed in the Philippines, and was a PT Boat, also known as the Knights of the Sea, metal smith during WWII. He was a member of the PT Boat Preservation Association. Hub retired to Florida in 1985 after 30 years of service with Conrail as a Brakeman. He was a member and usher of First United Methodist Church of Port Orange and he enjoyed golfing.
Hub was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Mesie Mahaffey, and his brother Dean Mahaffey.

Hub is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rhonda Knight Mahaffey, of Port Orange, FL, and their two sons; Ryan, of Orlando, FL and Brock of Port Orange, FL, and their three grandchildren; Vanessa, Madison and Aidan. He is also survived by three sons from a previous marriage, Tim of Huber Heights OH, Mike of Cedarville OH, and Pat of Xenia, OH, and seven grandchildren, Jamie, Katie, Kelli, and Kasey, and two great-grandchildren, Jason and Justin.

I just wanted to update you all. Ryan's dad passed at 8:30 this morning. He went peacefully, just as he wanted. Many have asked, so here are the arrangements. There will be an announcement in the News Journal as well. The viewing will be on Thursday from 5-7 at Volusia Memorial in Port Orange. As of right now, the funeral will be there as well, on Friday morning at 10:30.
